Author's Notes: This is the sequel to Nox
Summary: Watch as Anda tries to help the fallen angel Nox.

    She looked at the mirror. Her long platinum blonde hair is gone. She had it dyed and had it cut. She is now sporting a glamorous bob and she had it dyed cherry-brown. She straightens out her plaid skirt as she stepped out of her office. People are bustling about. The company is launching new game software so everybody is extremely busy. In fact some of them spend sleeping in the office. She too had to spend the night in the other day just to finish helping the visual presentation committee.

    Miranda Schwartz or Anda for short went back to her office to finish the product report analysis for the new software. Not only that, she’s been researching about fallen angels ever since she met this otherworldly being named Nox. As she sat down in her plush office chair, she smiled at the memory of her last meeting with the fallen angel. She visited him in their HQ with a picnic basket. She found it disappointing that fallen angels don’t eat but rather feed on energy. Nox explained that they get to eat every time there is a full moon. Despite this information, the fallen angel agreed to have a picnic with her.

    Anda admitted that enjoyed the company of Nox. Ever since that day she tried to kill herself, she wanted to get closer to the said angel whom she only can see. Meetings like this gave Anda an idea where to start her research about Nox. Fallen angels don’t really forget everything once they’ve fallen. They still remember snippets of their past. Nox told her that the only thing he could remember is a snippet of a girl who has light-brown hair and clear blue eyes. According to Nox, the girl was definitely human. This made her concluded that Nox was formerly a human being. Now can human beings can be fallen angels? This prompted Nox to ask Midnight, his fellow fallen angel regarding this.

    She looked at the clock in her computer and noticed that it was time to go home. She stretched her body and lazily gazed at her computer screen. No way in hell she can finish the report. But the deadline is today at seven. Looks like she has to work overtime on the blasted thing. She mentally cursed. The last time she met Nox was during that picnic and that was like a month ago. She was too extremely busy with her work and she didn’t have enough time to visit the handsome fallen angel.

“Miss Schwartz, we’ll be going now.” Her secretary replied. She looked up and she saw most of the employees through her glass window are packing and ready to go home. She nods her head and smiled.

“You’ll be left behind?” her secretary asked.

    Anda shrugs her shoulders and said, “Report not yet done.”

“Are you gonna be okay alone here? It will be pretty dark after six.” The secretary replied her voice laced with concern.

“Don’t worry about me, I’ll be safe. Like there’s someone going to harm me here.” She replied knowingly. The secretary sheepishly smiled and said, “Ahaha, you see mam, there are stories going around that there is a ghost haunting this place.”

    Anda raised her eyebrow at her secretary and said, “That is nonsense. Anyway, I’ll be fine. I don’t believe in ghosts.”

     Her secretary curtly nods her head and went off. Anda sighed and looked at her computer screen. Time to finish the report.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Send. Finally, she finished the report and had sent it to her boss via e-mail. She checked her computer clock and noticed that it’s seven already. What do you know; a buzzer beater. She shut her computer down and started fixing her things. It’s time for her to go home and rest the night away.

     She is about to pick up her bag when she heard something scuffling. She froze. She looked up and could see that the whole office in drowned in pitch black darkness. The only light is coming from her desk lamp.

“Must be the janitor” Anda thought as she picked up her bag. She heard the scuffling again. The sound didn’t sound like scuffling of feet. She gulped as she remembered what her secretary told her about a ghost haunting the place.

“I don’t believe in ghosts.” She said out loud standing up.

“But you believe in angels.” A voice exclaimed through the darkness.

    Anda frowned. She knows that voice. From the darkness, she saw a pair of pristine white wings. She heaved a sigh of relief and exclaimed, “Damn it Nox, you scared me! It was your wings that I was hearing!”

    Nox scratched his chestnut colored hair and said, “Sorry. They were brushing against some potted plants near the window.”

     “What are you doing here?” Anda asked seating down again. The fallen angel is now standing before her. She could outline the handsome features of Nox through her desk lamp. She inwardly blushed. He may be a fallen angel but damn, he is so ethereal, that he is beyond handsome.

Nox smiled softly at her and said, “Visiting you. I haven’t seen you for a month. I kinda missed you.”

Now isn’t he a sweet talker. Anda couldn’t stop the blush forming in her cheeks. Nox telepathically moved a chair and seated himself besides Anda. The fallen angel then brushed his right hand at Anda’s hair saying, “Your new hair looks good on you.”

“Thanks.” She replied blushing even more. “I decided that to change my style. Being blonde is kind of boring already.”

“Ahahaha. Your friends did tell you that when they tried to stop you from dying your hair blonde.” Nox replied eyeing her.

Anda playfully slapped the angel in the shoulders and said, “Hey, no peeking through my past.” She then asked, “So, were you able to ask Midnight?”

“Yes. Midnight told me that human beings can be turned into fallen angels.” Nox replied. Anda’s eyes lit up and exclaimed, “Really? How?”

     Nox smiled ruefully and said, “Well a soul who dwells in purgatory or you can say a lost soul can be turned into fallen angel.”

“You mean ghosts can be turned into a lost soul?” Anda clarified. The fallen angel nods his head and continued, “Usually these are the souls of those who committed crimes that before they died, they decided to repent. In order for them to enter the heavens they work as Fallen Angels for God.”

     Anda looked at Nox deeply and said, “I don’t think you’re the type who’ll commit a crime Nox,”

     Nox chuckled and said, “Anda, I can’t remember my past. I could be a murderer and killed that girl and repented killing her.”

“Pif. My gut feeling tells me otherwise. Besides, how can you be sure that Midnight is not telling you bullshit?” Anda exclaimed.

“Because, Midnight was once human and that is all he can remember. He doesn’t know what crime he committed. It was explained to him why he is a Fallen Angel and that is how he knew he was once human.” Nox explained. “He has snippets of his past, lots of blood and gunshots. He doesn’t want to remember fully. I think he’s afraid that whatever crime he committed he’ll bring it to heaven if he remembers.”

    Anda sighed and said, “Okay, let’s say you were human before. I mean you had snippets of a girl with raven-black hair. I mean if you were an Angel of God, you won’t have memories of that human girl. Probably your snippets would be I don’t know, being holy and stuff?”

“Probably.”

“In that the case, what crime could you have possibly committed?” Anda wondered.

     Nox closed his eyes and said, “There is something I remembered from the girl.” He the opened his eyes said, “She was dying.”

     Anda stared at him in utmost surprise.

“I think I killed her Anda.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

   What followed next was unexpected. Anda had invited the fallen angel into her apartment. Nox is seating down on her living room, looking so forlorn as he stares at the window looking at the HQ below him.

“What made you think you killed her?” Anda questioned as she placed a hot cup of coffee on the living room table.

“It was her sad and pleading eyes. She was looking at somebody, probably me. Those eyes were calling out to me as if she was asking for mercy.” Nox explained. Anda bit her lips and said, “I still don’t believe you killed her.”

    Nox looked at Anda and smiled. “You are too kind Anda.”

“Don’t tell me I’m kind. That is utter bullshit. It is just I don’t believe any of that shit you said. You.didn’t.killed.her.Period.” Anda exclaimed stressing the last part out. The handsome fallen angel then asked, “Then what if I did?

     Anda brushes her hands into her scalp and said, “Look, I’ll investigate about this mysterious girl. If she was really dead or been killed, there would be some old news about her.” With that she stood up. She grabs a pen from her bag and a paper and said, “Can you draw her face to me?”

     Nox stared at the paper and pen and asked, “What for?”

“You don’t know her name but with a picture we can find who she is.” Anda explained. She approached Nox and asks, “So, can you draw her?”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    The following morning, she called in sick. She is going to spend the whole day investigating about this mysterious girl. She looked at the drawing that Nox had drawn for her. The girl looks suspiciously like her as if younger. In fact younger. The girl was in her teens.

     She took a last bite of her bacon and eggs and grabbed her cellphone. She dialled a phone number and waited for a ring.

     After a few seconds, it rang and somebody answered the call. Anda perked up, “Hi! Winston?”

“Anda? Is that you?!” a male voice exclaimed at the end.

“Yeah it’s me. I know it’s been awhile but I need a favour.” Anda replied looking at the drawing.

“What did you do? Kill somebody?”

     Anda rolled her eyes and said, “No Officer Winston. However, it’s related to that. You know what? I’ll meet you at a café down town around brunch. I believe the café’s name is Doll Kiss.

“Of all places, you want to meet in a maido café?” Winston replied almost laughing.

“Shut it. It’s the nearest and the most innocent place I could think off discussing this matter with you.” Anda exclaimed in an irritable tone.

     Winston sighed and said, “Fine don’t get your panties in a bunch. I’ll meet you there.” Thus the phone call ended.

     Anda shook her head. She sometimes wondered how on earth her gay friend Winston ended up as a police investigator. He is too gay for that.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Winston is a 5’7 silver-blond guy who wears an eye-patch over his left-eye. He smiled cheekily at Anda as the girl sat down in front of him. Anda frowned at the eye-patch and asked, “What happened to your eye Winston? Don’t tell me it’s for the sake of fashion.”

“Nice to see you again Anda dear and no it’s not for the sake of fashion. I lost my eyesight during a drug bust.” Winston replied.

“Sorry.”

“Don’t be. It was worth it.” Winston replied touching the eye patch. “I did lose an eye but I gained a lover.”

     Anda’s jaw dropped. Winston has a lover. Fucking who?! Winston chuckled at the reaction of his friend. “Remember my partner Leidon? He’s the one. I lost my eye because I was trying to save him.” He then sighed dreamily and said, “I didn’t know he was bi and I was like crushing on him for a long time.”

“Well good for you Winston. You finally found your true love.” Anda replied smiling at her friend.

“True, true, by the way, how are you and Ray?” Winston asked with a raised eyebrow. Anda smiled weakly and said, “We broke up a month ago. His career was more important than me.”

    Winston shook his head and replied, “I always knew he was an ass. Such an egoistical bastard. I wish he loses his career.”

     Anda giggled and said, “Now, now, I didn’t come here to rant about Ray. In fact, I don’t care about him anymore. I’m here to ask help from you.”

“Okay you did mention it on the phone earlier.” Winston replied getting serious. Anda took the drawing out from her bag and showed it to Winston. “Can you investigate about this girl?”

     Winston looked at the drawing and frowned. “Anda this is you.”

“No. It’s not me. I might have blue eyes but I don’t have light-brown hair. I wasn’t even born with that kind of color of hair. I was a brunette.” Anda replied shaking her head.

“What about her?”

“I think she died years ago. I want to know who she is. She’s still in her teens when she died.” Anda explained. “A friend of mine has some sort of amnesia and that girl is all he can remember. The thing is, he thinks he killed her but I refuse to believe that.”

     Winston looked at her and asked, “And why is that?”

“I don’t know. But my gut feeling tells me he didn’t kill that girl.” Anda reasoned out. She then grabbed Winston hands and said, “Please help me. I’ll pay you whatever amount there is.”

“Wow Anda, you’re doing all of this for a guy friend. Are you sure he is not just a friend?” Winston asked coyly. Anda rolled her eyes and said, “Oh shut it fag, I just came out from a relationship.”

“Hey, this fag you’re calling is getting some so there! Anyway, you don’t have to pay me. I’ll do it pro bono.” Winston replied pocketing the drawing in his coat.

     Anda beamed and exclaimed, “Are you sure? Thanks Winston!”

“You’re lucky that you’re my friend however, in one condition Anda.” Winston replied.

“And what that would be?” Anda asked raising an eyebrow. Winston grinned like a Cheshire cat and said, “When I see Ray, can I beat the daylights out of him?”

     Anda laughed and said, “Be my guest Winston, be my guest.”

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    She returned back to her apartment past lunch time. She and Winston had a lot of catching up to do. The last time she saw Winston is when she got together with Ray. Winston had been her college friend. The guy was taking up criminology at that time and while she was in game developing. Two entirely different people but became the best of friends.

     She noticed that someone was in the living room. She smiled. Nox visited her pretty early today. She walked towards the living room and exclaimed cheerily, “Hey there Nox! You’re pretty early.”

“So is that the new name of your lover?”

    Anda froze. There stands her ex-boyfriend, Ray Mario Sanchez. He still adorns that handsome black tousled hair and clean-shaven face. He is dressed in a very formal corporate suit.

“What are you doing here? And how did you get in?” Anda demanded breaking away from her stupor.

    Ray tosses the keys towards her saying, “I wasn’t able to return you the spare keys that you gave me.”

     Anda caught the keys with ease and said icily, “Okay, you’ve returned it. You can go now.”

    Ray chuckled and said, “How unfriendly Anda.”

“It’s Miranda to you Ray, Miranda.” Anda spat crossing her arms. Ray chuckled a bit as if he didn’t get that he is not welcome. He took a step and said, “You didn’t answer my question while ago, Miranda. Is Nox, or whoever he is, is your new lover?”

    Miranda could feel a vein popping. How arrogant. “It’s none of your business Ray! What is it to you?”

“Oh just curious, I was wondering whether you got over me. Glad to hear you have someone new.” Ray replied cockily.

“What? You thought what? I can’t believe you!” Miranda exclaimed her anger turning to ferocity. “You conceited bastard! Are you implying I won’t get over you? Let me tell you this, I am over you!

    With that, Anda reached for her apartment door. She flings it open and said, “Leave now Ray before I report you to the security.”

    Ray suppressed another chuckle and went out of the door. He then said, “If you need me Anda, you know where to reach me.”

     A loud slamming of the door was heard. Ray let out that suppressed chuckle and headed towards the elevator. At the elevator, he sees a tall man dressed in this black silvery trench coat and black tight jeans. His chestnut colored hair seemed to glow under the fluorescent light. The man stared at him as if trying to swallow his whole being.

“What’s your problem?” Ray asked pushing the down button.

“Stop tormenting Anda. That is not a way to get back to her heart.” The man replied. Ray’s eyes widened and said, “So you’re Nox. She was expecting you.”

     Nox didn’t take his eyes off Ray and said, “I know. And you are Ray Mario Sanchez; you were the one who broke her heart. You left her for your career.”

“I did but I am successful now than ever. Its all for her. You’ll see she will come back to me. Miranda needs me.” Ray replied looking smug.

“Let’s see. Anda needed love not fame and money.” Nox replied. He walked pass Ray and say, “You will regret hurting her, I promise you that.”

    Ray turned his body to face him however, Nox is no longer there. Ray frowned. Where did the he go? He brushed it off when the elevator door opened. He stepped inside pondering what kind of man this Nox is.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Nox find Miranda curled up on her bed. She is still wearing that skirt and blouse when she met up with her friend Winston. Nox knew that the girl is crying. An unsuspecting encounter with you ex-boyfriend is not some girl would want. He carefully seats himself near the curled-up girl and places his right hand on her head.

     Anda opens her eyes and meekly looks up at Nox. The white-winged fallen angel gently smiles at her and starts caressing her hair. She didn’t have to tell Nox what happened. The fallen angel knew. She bit her lips to stop herself from crying. However, the tears just kept on falling. It still hurt to see Ray. That bastard.

     Nox bend his head down as his forehead touching Anda’s forehead and said, “Shhh… the pain will go away soon.”

“I wish you’re not a fallen angel right now. I heard angels can take away pain.” Anda mumbled closing her eyes. She could feel Nox smile widening.

“Who said fallen angels can’t?”

“Really? How?” Anda asks opening her eyes.

“We kiss it away.” Nox replied. With that he sealed Anda’s lips with his. Anda found herself closing her eyes. She started feeling light and somehow deep in her mind, the kiss felt so familiar, as if she had been kissed by those lips before.

     Nox lifts his lips from Anda’s not saying a word. Anda’s eyes flutters open and she asks, “Have I known you somewhere?”

“Why?”

“I know those lips somewhere.” Anda replied looking into Nox’s eyes. The fallen angel smiled angelically at her and said, “I wonder the same thing.”

     Anda stretches her hand to Nox and touches his face saying, “I wished I had an angel like you.”

“I wish I have you Anda.” Nox replied in his mind as he took hold of Anda’s hand. As he lied besides Anda on the bed, as he covered their bodies with his wings, as Anda drifted to dreamland and as he closes his eyes and to feel her warmth, Nox knew, he knew that he is falling again.

“Anda…”

Summary:
A start of a journey towards thy self

He has long forgotten how old he is or what is his real name. He only knew one thing. He's a fallen angel. The reason why he is one, is also forgotten.

    His pristine white wings beat in the air as he lands his feet to the ground. White. He is the only fallen angel who has white wings. All fallen angels have black wings. Black as the darkness in the night.

"Hello there Nox. How's your patrol?" Midnight, a bald-headed, dark-skinned fallen angel asked him.

    Nox run his hand on his chestnut colored hair saying, "The usual"

"How many lost souls did you reap?" Midnight inquired.

"About 30" Nox Answered.

    Midnight sighed and said, "That's half of your quota and the day hasn't started yet." he looked up the sky and continued, "More and more humans succumb to the darkness. Why do they kill themselves just like that?"

    Nox closed his eyes and answered the seemingly rhetorical question, "Perhaps they feel forgotten and unlove. Just like us."

    A loud buzzing sound is heard, Midnight spread his black wings adorned with  piercings and said "That's the call for the second patrol. I'll be taking your post now."

"Should I say have fun?" Nox asked smirking. Midnight merely chuckled and flied away.

~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

"I'm sorry Anda, but it's over. I love you but I'm choosing my career."

    Those words still rang in her mind. Tears were streaming down her pale cheeks. Tears pouring out her obsidian eyes. Her long platinum-blonde hair is sloppily pulled back to keep it from falling on her face.

    She grudgingly wiped her tears away with her hands.

"Fuck you Ray, Fuck you and your stupid career. Fuck you!" she muttered angrily.

    She sat down on her bed grabbing a pillow and started pounding her fist on it.

 "Damn you! Fuck you! Go to fucking bleedin' hell! You , you bastard!" she cried. When she got tired of the pillow, she grabbed her alarm clock and threw it at the window.

    The sound of breaking glass echoed through her painful sobs of anguish. Amanda Schwarz never felt so miserable. At the age of 25, she has her own apartment, has her own car, earns more than an average employee a month. You can say, she's very fulfilled. Great lifestyle, a great job, and a supposed to be a great love life.

    Ray Mario Sanchez, a half-Spanish-American broker whom she met on a night out with her friends. There's no need for courtship, for they both knew they are on to each other. Anda as her friends call her, prioritize Ray next to her job. Unfortunately, Ray always prioritize work first. Anda understood of course, earning money is essential but it to be a reason for a break-up that is something Anda cannot comprehend.

    Ray went over her place minutes ago just to say it's over. The message was clear and simple. It's okay if the relationship is falling apart but it is not. Ray needed more time for work, for money, for his career. So goodbye Anda.

    Indeed goodbye. Anda found herself standing on the ledge of her window. At the back of her mind, a small voice is telling her that she's not thinking straight.

    There's nothing straight. Nothing. Everything's crooked and twisted. Anda looked around to see more buildings. She's on the 30th floor and by god that is high. She looked down and could see a rooftop of a building.

"Jump there..." Anda muttered.

    And she did.'

~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~o~

    Nox stares at the empty rooftop. Its has been the headquarters of most fallen angels. Since the building was built, fallen angels has been gathering there. It's usually filled with fallen angels at this time but today, he is alone.

    Nowadays, less and less fallen angels go there. Maybe because of the 40 floored Apartment Complex built right in front of it. The fear f being seen has always been a trait of fallen angels. They're not beautiful like the holy ones. They are impure. Nox has been pondering this for a very long time now. Why he doesn't have that fear, Even Midnight has that fear. Perhaps because he is different. The only fallen angel to have white wings.

    Speaking of being seen, right now he could see a body falling towards him. A body. Falling.

"What the - "

    The body crashed onto him knocking him down. A body falling down like that would have died. This one didn't.

"You caught her fall, rather you break her fall"

    Her. Nox had the body off him and had it lying on the cemented floor. This woman just committed suicide. But she didn't die so there's no point of reaping her soul. If she does it again and succeeds then that's when the reaping starts.

    The woman's eyes stirred, it looked straight at him and asked, "Am I dead?"

"Far from that." He answered back. Wait. She can see him. They're not supposed to be seen. The constant hiding and moving away. They do not want to be seen. They. But how about Nox? Do he wants to be seen?

"You can see me." Nox whispered audible enough for the girl to hear him

"Yes, that's why I ask if I'm dead. You have wings, I presume you're an angel." The girl replied not looking a bit shocked.

"I'm not that kind of angel"

"Oh... what are you then?" she asks

    Nox frowned and said, "Look. Aren't you a bit scared? I'm not human, you jumped from you 40 floored apartment trying to kill yourself and now you're casually talking to me!"

"Because my life has turned upside down! I am in shock stupid! I should have died you idiot! Why did you save me?" she exclaimed almost shouting.

"I didn't! You fell on me. I break your fall woman!" Nox explained looking irritated. He never saw a suicidal like this. Weird.

"I have a name. It's - "

"Miranda Schwarz. Anda for short. You're a Supervisor in a computer gaming company, you live in that apartment building, 30th floor. your boyfriend just broke-up with you that cause you to not to think straight and jump to your supposed to be death." Nox dabbled making Anda to gape at him.

    Anda gulped and said, "I am dead an you are an angel!"

    Nox rolled his eyes and said, "You are not dead and I'm not an angel."

"Fine. Then what are you? A winged psychic?" Anda demanded sarcastically.

"I'm a fallen angel. We, fallen angels patrol the cities reaping souls of people committing suicide or what we call lost souls." Nox explained.

    Anda slowly got to her feet saying, "In that case, reap my soul"

    Nox shook his head saying, "I can't. You didn't die. If you want, jump again, die and your soul is mine."

    Anda sighed replying, "Like that is easy..."

"Well you just did it"

"I wasn't thinking straight!"

    Nox sighed and said, "Fine. Now go back to your apartment. The other fallens will freak knowing and seeing you talking to me."

"Why?"

"We're not supposed to be seen but you can see me. Now, leave!" Nox exclaimed reaching the zenith of his patience.

    Anda sat down again saying, "No."

    Nox stared at her in disbelief. Anda bit her lip and said, "I don't want to be alone at the moment. I might do something crazy again."

"Yeah, like slit your throat or your wrist over angtsying." Nox exclaimed crossing his arms.

"Hahahaha funny" Anda replied sardonically. "Anyway, you have a name?"

"Nox. They call me Nox. Not my real name. It's what they gave me when I became a fallen angel." Nox answered not bothering to look at her.

"What's your real name then?"

"I forgot. It's been a very long time. I can't even remember why and how I became a fallen angel." Nox replied looking upwards.

    Anda smiled ruefully and said, "That's sad"

    Nox nod his head and said, "True but what I think is sad is that humans like you kill yourselves because you cannot take the pain that this world offers."

    A pang of guilt washed over Anda, her gaze lowered down and muttered, "You say like it's easy..."

"I never said it was. I didn't even mean it that way. God made tribulations to test your kind. We also have those." Nox explained. "Even if I don't remember why I became a fallen angel, I know I must have failed on something. But God gave me a chance, so here I am. "

    Anda stood up and demanded, "If that's the case, why can't God give a chance to those who committed suicide?"

"He does Anda. If not, you won't still be alive." Nox pointed out making Anda's eyes swell with tears. Nox placed his hands on Anda's cheeks cupping it. He stared at those tearful eyes and said, "Live your life Anda. Don't waste this chance."

    The tears fell and Anda found herself being lifted up to the sky.

    Midnight raised his eyebrow slightly at Nox. His fellow fallen is looking at the apartment complex that stood in front of them.

"What's so interesting?" he asks.

    Nox sighed and said, "Weird it may sounds but I want to remember why I became a fallen."

    This reply made Midnight shook his head saying, "You have to work yourself up to the heavens then my friend."

    Nox smiled. He could remember the parting words Anda told him as he bid farewell. He brought her up to her apartment and there Anda said,

"Thank you Nox, I hope we see each other again because I want to return the favor."

"Favor?"

"I want to help you. I want you to remember your past, your real name."

"That would be impossible Anda."

"Nope. God gave me a chance to live again, He gave a chance to a former angel like you. In that case, it's possible. We just have to work ourselves up to the heavens I guess." with that Anda gave Nox a smile that for the angel is the most beautiful of all.

    Midnight gave a confusing look at Nox's smile. Nox pat his friend at the back saying, "Yeah, I will work myself up to the heavens Midnight."

    A buzzing sound is heard. Nox spread his pearly white pristine wings and thought "I'll see you again Anda, I promise."

Author's Notes: A Prequel to Perfect Brew
Summary: How Alain fell in-love with the barista Seraf and why. In Alain Konig's point of view.

When you wake up in the morning, people in the house will greet you good morning. But right now, I want to throw the good in the morning outside the window and blast it with a super cannon. Why do you ask? I'm currently stuck here in the school hallway surrounded by girls who kept on blabbering...

"Alain please go out with me!"
"Alain you're sooo cool!"
"Please make your date this coming dance?"
"Will you marry me?"

    Do I have to say more? Ugh. My name is Alain Konig. I study here in St. Philippe, one of the most prestigious music school in Europe. I'm a 6th grade in piano and has mastered the art of Guitar Skills. I got in quite easily because I'm a music prodigy and I'm not bashful about it. I'm proud to be a music prodigy and I show it. However, because of this I garnered "fan girls". This is what you get if you're talented, good-looking and rich. You get a lot of nuisance.

Rrringgg....

    There goes the bell but here I am still stuck here. I can't squeeze myself through these irritating fangirls. I could feel a nerve popping and I'm ready to strangle, maul and murder them all.

"All right girls, break-up. Your prince is already late for his next class." my best friend Tadhg Walker who excel in playing the saxophone and trombone exclaimed as he squeezed through. He is also my childhood friend. Tadhg also has his fangirls and he loves having them.

"Thanks Tad." I mumbled as I walked alongside him towards our class.

"Alain, you gotta learn how to handle your fangirls." Tadhg replied as he steps into our class.

    I rolled my eyes saying, "You mean tolerate. Sorry, but that word doesn't exist in my vocabulary when it comes to them."

"Alain, Alain, you're so stiff and rigid." Tadhg replied shaking his head.

"I resent that!" I spat back, a look of denial thrown at Tadhg.

    Tadhg gave me a questioning look and said, "Okay ice prince. You've been showing too much emotion. Something's up."

    I looked away. How do I say this? I'm not good at confessing something not even to the guy I grew up with. Tadhg nudged me and asked, "So who is the lucky girl?"

    I choked on my own saliva. Damn idiot. He knows how to read me. I could feel a grin creeping up on his face. Damn you Tad. "I don't know who is she." I mumbled.

"Oh" Tadhg replied. I don't need to explain further. Tadhg knew by my answer that this girl I like is not popular and probably not in my fan club but definitely a student of St. Philippe.

"I was on the terrace. You know where I usually drink coffee? One day I was sitting there and I heard this music. It was the Moonlight Sonata being played on the violin." I replied trying to stop myself from smiling as I told him my tale. "The music came from the orchard below. I looked down and there she was. She was playing it under the apple tree with her eyes closed. To play that piece with closed eyes shows passion and love for music."

"Wait. Did you said the orchard?" Tadhg asked. I nod my head.

    Tadhg's face broke into a grin. Now what? When Tadhg grins like that it's either he is up to something or he knows something I don't. Wait. Know?

"Hey you don't say!"

"Alain, that girl! I know her!" Tadhg exclaimed. "Almost everyone who goes to Perfect Brew knows her."

    I could feel question marks appearing above my head.

"She's a barista in the coffee shop Perfect Brew. I always go there for a cup of coffee. Not only that she always practice playing the violin in the orchard." Tadhg explained. "I just don't get why you like her. She's pretty average-looking, an average student but hey, she has some great potential." he rambled on.

"I didn't like her for her looks Tad. There's something in her that I couldn't describe but it got me." I replied almost blushing. Tadhg shook his head saying, "You have turned into one big romantic sap. You really had it hard."

"What's her name?" I ask.

    Tadhg smirked and said, "Know what? Go to Perfect Brew. She's there MWF after class and Saturday mornings. Find it out yourself, I gave enough information for you to kiss my foot."

    I glared at him and said nothing. Perfect Brew huh? All right, I'll go.

    When classes ended, I immediately went to Perfect Brew. As I enter the shop, there she is standing behind the counter. Her eyes met mine. She smiled and said, "Good afternoon! Welcome to Perfect Brew. May I take your order?"

    My eyes landed on her nameplate: Seraf. Her name is Seraf. I smirked. Now, I know her name. Knowing the rest would be easy.

    Since that day, I became a frequent customer in Perfect Brew. I even have my own spot there. As I go there, I make sure Seraf is the one to take my order, the one to serve me and to clean my table. As I go there, I learned that her full name is Seraphim Carmichael. A 6th grade in piano and a 9th grade in the violin. I also learned that she works in Perfect Brew part-time, like coffee and dreams of performing solo in a music concert. An average girl but how she plays the violin with so much passion it mesmerize me. I realized that to her, music is her life as it is for me. Very few girls I know in school are like that.

    I continue to watch and listen to her play in the orchard. I continue to visit her in Perfect Brew and before I realize it, I've been doing it for 3 months now.

    Today, this beautiful Saturday morning, I've decided to confess my feelings for her. Nothing grand but touching, yes indeed.

    As I step into Perfect Brew, her back was turn against me. This is it, all those watching and stalking has percolated to this. To this love I feel for her, to one Seraphim Carmichael.

Author's Notes: Dedicated to those who love to wish upon a star
Summary:
When Star fell from the heavens, she has fallen hard and there's no turning back.

    Hi! Hello! You might be wondering who this green-haired and red-ruby eyed girl talking to you. My name is Star Polaris and like my name, I am a star. You know, those bright heavenly bodies you see in the night sky? I'm a 200,000,000 years old shooting star that was wished upon by a guy named Magnus Everans.

    Magnus is this handsome young guy who wished upon me and what happened? I fell. Literally on him. It freaked Magnus out and it took me a month before he got to me. Okay, shooting stars like me when wished upon, fell to Earth adorning human bodies to fulfill the mortal's wish who wished upon us. The catch? We only have a year to do it, we can't use magic, we have to do it the human way and of course, once we've granted the wish, we turn to dust. Now, what happens if we weren't able to grant the wish? We turned into vile creatures. Of course, I don't want to turn into a vile creature so I did everything to grant Magnus' wish. What wish? Magnus wanted to have the perfect girlfriend for him.

    All those times I've spend with Magnus, I learned that he's extremely shy even he is gifted with such good looks. He has this jet-black hair and he has these bangs that sometimes covers his toffee-colored eyes that I love staring into. I worked on how to raise Magnus' self-confidence in order for him to court the prettiest girl in his school: Leika McDuff. For Magnus, she is the perfect girl. Pretty, nice, smart and very confident of herself. In order to do this all, I have to stay with Magnus. I posed as his adoptive sister. So, I Star Polaris turned into Star Everans, the weird but friendly sister of Magnus.

    Of course, I laid all the rules to Magnus. I can't help him if he's not going to help me help him. I told him about the one-year contract of his wish and the consequence of what will happen to me if I didn't succeed into granting his wish. I didn't have the heart to tell him about what will happen to me after I granted his wish. At first, I didn't understand why I don't want him to know that then I realize as the months go by helping him, being at his side, I fell in love with him. Now, falling in love with him really broke my heart. I know he likes Leika and he will never love a star like me, someone who is not human not less mortal. Lastly, fallen stars like me has nothing to turn back in the heavens. Once we fall, a new star will take our place. We turn to dust, our souls hoping to be reincarnated as stars again. As for me, I wanted to be reincarnated as a human girl and I hope, I will meet a guy like Magnus.

     Anyway, I did grant Magnus' wish. Three weeks ago, Magnus got Leika to say yes to him. They have been a couple for three weeks now. Three weeks before the school dance and here I am hiding in my room in the Everans' residences hoping Magnus won't bother me to coming. On the day of the dance is the day I will vanish from his life. I can't bear to be with him on my last days. It will be too painful.

"Star?"

Drat.

"Yes Magnus?" I ask not looking at him. Magnus sat beside me by the windowsill and said, "Star, what's happening to you? You've been sad for three weeks. Aren't you happy that you finally granted my wish?"

"I'm happy Magnus. I just feel homesick." I lied. "I see. If I could have the power to send you back Star I would. I mean, after all to what you've done to me..." he said lost at words.

    I looked at Magnus empathetic face and smiled. "It's okay Magnus. You know stars like me who fell cannot go back. I'll be fine."

"But Star how can I make up to you?" Magnus whined. I was about to say that he doesn't have to do anything when he beat me by saying, "I know! Come with us to the dance!"

    I shook my head and said, "No! Magnus! I'm not going to be a third wheel to you and Leika!" Magnus scratches his head saying, "B-but... Star..."

    I sighed. "Magnus, don't scratch your head like that. When you do, I can't help to think you're still being shy." Magnus rolls his eyes and said, "Star, I am still shy. I'm bit more confident than before."

"Magnus Everans! You say you're shy again I'll strangle you!" I scolded him. Magnus grins at me and said, "Fine, but come with me to the dance."

"Fine, fine. I'll go but by the time we arrive there, I'll separate from the two of you." I replied. Magnus gave me a quick hug and said, "Thanks Star! Well I better go. See you later." with that he went off.

    I took a deep breathe and muttered, "Goodbye Magnus..."

~~~~~~~
"Hurry up Magnus!"
"Coming Leika!" I exclaimed as I hurried down the stairs. Hi! My name is Magnus Everans. I'm formerly the most shy boy in our school but thanks to Star I am no longer that person. Thanks to Star, Leika McDuff who is the most prettiest girl in school is my girlfriend now. We've been a couple for three weeks already.
    Speaking of Leika, she is now waiting by the door for me. I promised to accompany her to the mall for her to get the gown she ordered in this exquisite gown shop for the dance tonight. I know I'm lucky that Leika has fallen in love with me. Star, the shooting star I wished upon many months ago granted my wish.
"What took you so long?" Leika asks. I scratched my head and said, "I have to convince Star to come with us to the dance." Leika gave me a look and said, "Honestly, I don't know how you can stand up to that adoptive sister of yours. She's so weird."
    I frowned and said, "Leika, Star helped me a lot in many things you don't know Leika, so please be nice." Leika sighed and said, "Fine, fine, let's just go okay?"
    Without further ado we went out of the house. I stopped a bit and looked at Star's bedroom window. Star is staring at me giving me that smile of hers. She waved at me, I waved back. I couldn't shake that feeling that Star is hiding something from me. She's been down these past three weeks. Ever since, Leika and I became a couple. Star's been off and I couldn't get through her like I could before. A lot of things changed in Star within that three weeks. Before, Star would glomp me and ruffle my hair like I'm a kid. She would grab my hand and intertwine our fingers together as a form of our greeting. She would always be at my side but that all changed. Star doesn't glomp me anymore, she doesn't even do our usual greeting and lastly she spend her time all alone rather than with me. I asked mom why Star is like that, mom just said that because she doesn't want to get in the way of my relationship with Leika. I wanted to believe it but Star's sad eyes tells me otherwise. Something is bothering Star and honestly, I kind of miss her.
    What's weird, even if Leika is now my girlfriend, I can't help feeling that I'm not that happy. I am happy but not that happy I could die. I don't know why.
"Magnus, come on!" Leika exclaim dragging me away.
~~~~~~~

    I never imagine myself dressed in a gown like this one. Mrs. Everans bought me this dark green of shoulder ball gown that were designed with shining sequins that they look like stars in the sky. Fitted me very well.

"Star, are you ready? Leika is waiting in the living room." Magnus replied entering my room. I turned around and I could see Magnus' eyes widening. "Magnus?"

"Oh wow... Star... you look... beautiful." Magnus replied approaching me. I smiled and said, "Magnus, thanks but you don't have to flatter me."

Magnus shook his head, "No Star, you are beautiful." with that he took my hand and kissed it. "It's an honor to have you at the dance."

    I blushed I couldn't help it but I know it was wrong. Magnus is not supposed to say to me so I said, "Cut that our Magnus. You're supposed to say that to Leika."

"I know and you also deserved it. Come on, let's go." Magnus replied as he lead me out of my room.

~~~~~~~
    I watched as Star separate herself from us when we reached the dance. Leika, my girlfriend looked like a goddess in her white satin gown but Star, she looked like a star, so ethereal and beautiful. I know I'm not the only one ogling at her like that but the other guys as well in the place.
"You know Magnus, if your weird sister would look like that everyday she'll have guys at her heel." Leika commented. I grinned and said, "Star won't like that."
    I looked at Star as a guy approach her and suddenly I felt a twinge in my stomach. I don't understand but seeing Star with some other guy than me doesn't look appealing to me at all. I mentally bash myself for feeling that way. It's jealousy I know it what I can't understand it, why do I feel that way. It's always like that whenever Star's attention is not on me but some other guy.
    The dancing started, I lead Leika to the dance floor and I watched Star being lead to the dancing floor by a guy who just approached her. The song ended with me asking Leika if  could have a dance with Star. Leika didn't like the idea at first but she obliged when I told her that Star hasn't been feeling too well.
"Magnus?"
"Please don't say no Star." I said as I took her hand and lead her to dancing the waltz.
    Star smiled softly to me and said, "Magnus, I have something to tell you."
"What would that be Star?"
"I'll be leaving Magnus."
    I found myself nearly tripping on my feet as we danced. "What?! When?!" I asked. "Tonight, after this dance with you Magnus."
"Why Star?"
"A year is over Magnus. I don't have intentions of saying this but it's part of the catch as a shooting star granting your wish. After a wish is granted, a shooting star will turn into dust and our soul will go to heaven." Star explained bluntly but her voice is shaking trying to stop the tears from falling from her eyes.
    I stopped. I stared at her. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Why?"
"Goodbye Magnus.." Star replied as she walks away from me. Leika approached me seeing what happened and asked, "Something wrong Magnus?" I grit my teeth and said, "Star is leaving. Hold on Leika, I'll be back." with that I ran after Star.
    I found Star going to the school field. The school field where she fell on me. "Star! Star! Wait!"
"Go away Magnus, you don't want to see this!" Star exclaimed her voice cracking up. "No! Tell me why didn't you tell me about this? This thing you turning into dust when you finally granted my wish! Why?!"
    Star stopped walking and turned  towards me, tears falling from her face, "Why? Because I never thought I'd fall in love with you!"
    The answer made me stop exactly just a few meters away from Star. Star is in love with me. "I'm sorry for not telling you Magnus. I thought it's okay not to tell because... because..."
"Because what Star? That I won't care? Of course I'll care! You're important to me Star! I, I..." I could not find the words to say. Star approached me and said, "It's okay Magnus. I've accepted my fate. What hurts me is that I wasn't able to tell you sooner."
    I found myself embracing her as tears fall from my eyes and said, "Star... don't go... please..."
"Goodbye Magnus... I love you..." Star whispered and there was a great howling of the wind. I looked up and I could see the sky filled with dazzling stars. I looked at Star and she smiled at me. She ruffled my hair. A dazzling light enveloped Star's body and in a flash, she was gone with the wind. I kneeled down to the ground and I cried out her name. That night ended with Leika comforting me in the school field as I cried out Star's name. Nobody knows what happened all they know, Star left, disappearing without a trace.
~~~~~~~

    A year. A year has passed since Star disappeared. A year that I finally realized how important Star is to me. All those times that I've been with Star, I've fallen in love with her. I blame myself for not seeing it sooner but what can I do? Mom said it wasn't anybody's fault. Leika and I only lasted a year. I didn't want Star's effort go to waste so I endured a forced relationship with Leika. I endured her high-ended way of living and how she expected me to be the boyfriend that she wants. After a year, I broke up with her. Leika didn't even cried. She shrugged and said that she could bag a better guy than me. I didn't care.

    I tried to look at other girls, I tried to court others after the break up but it didn't work. No. Not because I'm being shy again. I lost my shyness remember. It's because of Star. It's because I still love her. That's why here I am in the school field hoping to find a shooting star hoping I could wish to have Star back in my life.

    A shooting star appeared. I closed my eyes and wished. I waited for a minute hoping that the star would crash to earth and that star would be in a human form and it would be Star. However, 30 minutes later no crashing shooting star. No Star Polaris. I sighed. I turned around scratching my head and muttered, "Keep dreaming Magnus."

"That was you said when you first wished upon a shooting star and quit with that scratching of your head. It makes me think that you're being shy again!" a familiar voice exclaimed.

    I looked back and grinned. Looks like my wish was granted once more and this time there is no catch.

~~~~~~~
"I can't believe you broke a rule Mother Andromeda."
"Orion, never I've seen a star falling in love with a mortal. I think they deserved to be happy even if they were foolish."
    Orion, the great right hand man of Queen Andromeda, the queen of all stars said, "So, you had her soul retrieved from the heavens, turned her into a shooting star making sure that, that guy would wish upon her but this time... with no catch."
"No catch."
"My queen you even turned her into a human."
"Like I said no catch."
"What if the other stars wanted the same? You can't just say no now I mean, now you've broke the rule." Orion pointed out. Queen Andromeda smiled and said, "Then I will hope that the mortal that they will love will also wish them back."
    Orion could only smile back.
~~~~~~~

    Hi! Hello, it's me Star again and no, I'm no longer a star. I'm a human being. Magnus and I are together now. Yes, I'm Star Everans because I am his wife. We got married after Magnus graduated from college. He's a Junior Executive Officer in a very famous law firm company and I? Well, who would thought that I would be a Guidance Counselor? Oh yeah, I'm also pregnant with our first child. We're naming her Stella.

    Oh well got to go, Magnus is waiting for me, we're heading to the hospital for a pre-natal check-up. See you next time I guess.

Author's Notes: Part of the collection of short-stories entitled "Of Music and Coffee".  Read the Prequel?
Summary: A love story involving coffee and music.

"Good Morning! Welcome to Perfect Brew! May I take your order?" I smiled. Yes, my usual greeting as I stand behind the counter taking orders in my morning shift every Saturday. After taking the customer's order, I would leave the counter and prepare whatever they wanted. Working as a barista at this famous coffee shop has its perks. One of them is the satisfaction that you are earning your own money. For a working student like me, extra cash is a luxury. Also, you get to meet and be-friend frequent customers who are either a very cute guy or a flamboyant gay guy and cool socialite women. Besides the cash and the cute guys, it give me a sense of independence and the percolating aroma of my favorite drink in the world. Coffee.

    Yes, I am a coffee geek. I breathe and live coffee. My day is not complete without a hot cup of brewed coffee or cafe mocha. Oh sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. The name is Seraphim Carmichael a junior at St. Philippe Music Academy. Yep, I'm a music major, besides obsessing for coffee, music is something that has been my life. I'm a 9th grade level in the violin and a 6th grade level in the piano. I'm currently learning to play the Cello and the Flute. I consider myself extremely lucky enrolled in a prestigious music school like St. Philippe even it's tad expensive. I'm not a musical prodigy and no scholar and the tuition is burning a huge hole in my parent's wallets. That's why when Perfect Brew advertise an opening for a barista, I grab the chance. Now, here I am a certified barista. I work every Monday, Wednesday and Friday after school hours and Saturday mornings. As I said, extra cash is a luxury. At least I get to pay for my miscellaneous fees every enrolment.

    "Hey you!" a male voice called out to me. I cringed. I know that voice. I smiled at the customer. A forced a smile. this customer is a frequent one but my least favorite. He goes by name of Alain Konig. He is rich, extremely handsome and a music prodigy. His skills in the guitar and piano is superb and almost inhuman. St. Philippe is honored to have him enrolled in their school. He has about 3 fan clubs which I am not a member. he drives a black expensive Ferrari, he dressed like a goth guy and very much into poetry. Everybody adores him except for me. I found him arrogant, cocky and very monotonous. His face is always stoic and his eyes expresses no emotions. though his music is filled with it, he himself seems devoid of it.

    "One cup of Espresso. Make it quick." he ordered. Yeah, he's not just arrogant but demanding too. A damn perfectionist in almost everything, even with his coffee. He always orders an Espresso and he likes it spiced up. After he paid for his order, he grab a seat near the window in the corner and started scribbling. It's either he is writing a new poem or he is composing a new song to show-off. Fine, fine so what if I'm wee bit jealous? So what if I do harbor a small crush on him because of his talent.? Urgh. Anyway, I prepare his espresso as he likes it. As I mix it, my co-barista Kea nudge me saying, "I envy you. Every time he goes here, you always have the chance to take and prepare his coffee and serve it to him."

    I roll my eyes and said, "You want to serve it to him? Go, I don't mind."

    "Are you sure?" she exclaimed looking love-struck.

    "Go. It's not like I'll die." I said grimly. So there, Kea got the chance to serve her crush his Espresso. Seconds later, Kea came back with the Espresso.

    "What?" I ask. Don't tell me he wanted to change his drink? I prepared it just as he like it.

    "He changed his mind. He wanted it to-go." Kea replied.

    Odd. Alain Konig never to-go his order. He always dine in. Oh well, I prepared another batch and had it in a Styrofoam cup with a lid on it. This time, I have to give it to him because Kea is busy taking an order with a picky customer. I walked over to him saying, "Sir, here's your Espresso."

    He looked at me and said, "Thanks Seraf."

    Seraf. He said my name. How did he knew my name? Oh yeah, my name tag. "Seraf Carmichael right? Or did I get it wrong?" He replied again.

    "Yes, that's me." I replied looking confused. He knew my full name. I've always believed that I don't exist in his world. He took the cup from my hand, opened the lid and took a sip.

    "I thought you wanted it to-go?" I ask.

    "I changed my mind." He said not looking at me. Weird. I went back to my post still feeling confused of how he knew me. I'm not popular. Actually, I'm just an average student with average looks and average friends. Unlike him, surrounded with popular students.

    An hour passed, Alain left. I approached his table to clean it and found a piece of paper. I was shocked that it wasn't a poem or musical notes scribbled on it. It was a letter addressed to me.

Seraf Carmichael,

    I know you because I've always been watching you and hearing you play the violin alone in the orchard. I've always thought you play beautiful music. I'm looking forward playing a duet with you. You know, you playing your violin and me playing my piano. I think it would be a perfect brew.

PS: I think you're beautiful as your music.

Alain Konig

    I could feel my heart fluttering and butterflies started to form in my stomach. Now, that's why he knows my name. That's the reason why he goes here and make it sure it's me taking and preparing his order. Alain Konig has always been watching me. Watching me. I was interrupted in my thoughts as I hear a tap on the window. I looked up only to see Alain standing there smiling at me. I blushed. The next thing I knew, I was outside talking about him and his letter. Perfect Brew huh? Why not?
